Book-style experience NEC releases the first folding dual-screen smartphone

Recently, NEC and Japanese operator NTT Docomo launched a folding dual-screen mobile phone Medias W. The unique design of the machine has attracted many eyeballs. Previously, the Kyocera Echo and Sony Tablet P in Japan also used a similar folding dual-screen design, but NEC introduced this model for the first time. It is reported that NTT Docomo is preparing to officially sell Medias W in the Japanese market in April 2013. The specific price has not yet been announced.

At WMC 2012, NEC has already shown the plastic model of NEC Medias W to the media. In this real machine show, we saw that Medias W uses the reverse folding method like Sony Tablet P. The machine is equipped with two 4.3-inch display screens with a resolution of 540 * 960 pixels on the front and rear panels. In other configurations, Medias uses a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, runs Android 4.1 system, has 1GB of memory and 16GB of storage space, and is equipped with an 8.1-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS camera and 2100mAh battery. Although the dual-screen design is adopted, the body size of Medias W is 64 & TImes; 136 & TImes; 12.2 mm, which is still relatively portable, and the fuselage design is sturdy and has a retro charm.

The machine can display different contents separately after the two screens are merged. For example, the user can keep one screen on the main interface and call the browser, picture library or other applications on the other screen. Or, calling the browser on one screen and calling other software on another screen can improve work efficiency.

After the two screens of Medias W are merged, the same content can also be displayed to expand the use space of the screen. In this way, the user can load a complete page when surfing the Internet, and watch videos and e-books with less effort. Especially when using Google Maps, it is particularly convenient for users to zoom in and out of narrow city streets on dual screens. Unfortunately, unlike the Kyocera Echo, Medias W does not have a large number of applications that can display on two screens-most applications can only work in single-screen mode.
