A battle to seize the commanding heights of the emerging industries of semiconductor lighting has already started around the world. In 2006, the global semiconductor lighting market sales exceeded 7 billion US dollars, with an average annual growth rate of more than 20%. It is expected that the next 5-10 years will form a potential market of 500-100 billion US dollars.
This is the information uploaded by the 4th China International Semiconductor Lighting Forum and Exhibition (CHINA SSL), which opened in Shanghai on the 22nd. More than 130 manufacturers from Germany, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions participated in the exhibition. The semiconductor lighting engineering industrialization bases in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Dalian, Xiamen and Nanchang also participated in the exhibition.
Semiconductor lighting (light-emitting diode, LED for short) is a new type of solid-state light source, which has shown energy-saving effects in special lighting fields, such as landscape lighting (instead of neon lights), energy saving of 70%, traffic lights (instead of incandescent lamps), energy saving of 80%, It is recognized as an important way of energy saving and environmental protection in the world.
In view of the encouraging development prospects of the semiconductor lighting industry, in recent years, Japan’s “21st Century Light Planâ€, the US “Next Generation Lighting Planâ€, the EU “Rainbow Planâ€, and the Korean “GaN Semiconductor Lighting Plan†have been launched. In June 2003, China also established the National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Coordination Leading Group and launched the National Semiconductor Lighting Project.
Faced with the huge temptation of the semiconductor lighting market, the world's three traditional lighting industry giants Philips, General Electric, and OSRAM also cooperated with semiconductor companies to establish a semiconductor lighting company. At present, semiconductor lighting has higher luminous efficiency than incandescent lamps, and is expanding its range of applications at a faster speed. Large-size LCD TV backlights, automotive, commercial and industrial lighting have gradually become the main application areas of LEDs. It is expected that in 2010, fluorescent lamps will be surpassed and enter the general lighting field, and the effect of energy saving will be more significant.
The forum and exhibition were jointly hosted by the National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Coordination Leading Group Office and the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and other units. The government, industry, academic, research, application and investment circles at home and abroad were invited to participate. Liu Yanhua, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, attended the meeting and announced the opening of the exhibition. The show will last until August 24.
