The wave of smart appliances has a market that is hot with smart modules. Industry insiders are optimistic that the smart module market size of smart home appliances will be equivalent to ten times the smart phone. However, the largest intelligent module company in China, the annual output value does not exceed 1 billion yuan, and behind the smart module is the smart chip, the international chip giant has quietly laid out.
The performance of listed companies has mixed feelings
Hetai, Tuobang, Yingtang Zhikong and Hejing Technology are the major domestic appliance control module listed companies. The first three headquarters are in Shenzhen, and the latter is in Wuxi. And their performance last year was mixed.
Topan shares are the largest. In 2013, the operating income was 9.99 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%, mainly benefiting from overseas market development. The revenue of intelligent controllers was 770 million yuan, down 0.36% year-on-year; the net profit was 40.518 million yuan, up 21.23% year-on-year.
In recent years, around the smart home, Tuobang has developed technologies such as wireless WiFi, Bluetooth communication control, touch screen display control, and intelligent power dimming of LED power. Some technologies have been applied to some smart home appliances of well-known brands in China. Tuobang shares said that this year will achieve strategic layout through mergers and acquisitions.
And Thai has had mergers and acquisitions last year. In the first half of 2013, the company acquired 20% of Shenzhen Hui Cisco Technology Co., Ltd., which has smart health testing products. In 2013, the business income of Hetai was 750 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33.68%; the net profit was 35.174 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 34.12%; and it has deep cooperation with white giants such as Electrolux, Whirlpool and Bosch.
As the leader of the intelligent control module of the Yangtze River Delta, Hejing Technology's 2013 operating income was 490 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 65.86%; net profit was 18.885 million yuan, an increase of 2.26%. Among its main products in 2013, Samsung [Weibo] washing machine intelligent controller has a large growth rate, and the growth rate of the US refrigerator intelligent controller is also considerable. Hejing Technology expects that in addition to air conditioning, frequency conversion technology will be applied to refrigerators, washing machines and other fields in the future, which will be another profit growth point for Hejing Technology in the future.
However, Yingtang Zhikong’s performance declined last year. In 2013, Yingtang Zhizhong's operating income was 630 million yuan, down 7.7% year-on-year, mainly due to the company's suspension and reduction of some other foreign orders; net profit loss was 8.136 million yuan, down 142.92% year-on-year, mainly due to wages and material costs. Rise, as well as the loss of the Thai education flat project.
Market potential is huge and there are thorns
The intelligent control market is about to enter another boom cycle. Upstream chips and software are also rushing.
According to an interview with reporters, Qualcomm Product Management Director Zhuang Yan said that with the breakthrough of smart home appliances and operating platforms, the intelligent control module market will be driven.
"This market has great potential", solemnly optimistic, if the smart phone controls all home appliances, each smart home appliance adds a smart module, an average module of 50~100 yuan. Zhou Ning, dean of the Shunde Institute of Information and Electromechanical Research, Wuhan University of Technology, is more optimistic. Zhou Ning predicts that as the output of smart appliances increases, the cost of smart modules will also decline. "When the price of smart chips comes down, consumers' online habits are more mature, and the control module factory will turn to the intelligent control module more."
However, there is no real leader in this market.
"At present, domestic smart module suppliers are not big. Even if listed companies, the annual output value does not exceed 1 billion yuan." Yao Changbiao, deputy director of Reid Electronics R&D Center, told reporters.
However, this market is not a flat. Yao Changbiao said that the intelligent control module market is now "a bit messy." Many companies want to insert them. The advantage is that the cost will drop, but the quality will be mixed, which will bring about twists and turns in the development of the industry.
Zhou Ning believes that behind the intelligent module suppliers, smart chip suppliers play a more important role, and module suppliers focus on application technology development. At present, the main providers of smart home chips are Taiwan MTK (MediaTek), the United States TI (Texas Instruments), Taiwan chip factory's lower price, local service awareness, and the US chip factory has strong technology on smart home chips strength. Intel and Qualcomm are high-end chips, and white goods and security system chips are less intelligent.
In fact, Intel is accelerating the layout of the smart home appliance market. Last year, I launched the IoT gateway product, focusing on the BB market. Yao Changbiao revealed that he recently visited the Intel Beijing Lab. Reid is negotiating with Intel about the cooperation project. Intel will release chips, and Reid will do software to make smart home control panels together.
One side is the stifling between the peers, and the other side is the chip giant behind it to speed up the staking, the huge potential smart module market, who will eventually win, remains to be seen.
