Before the article begins, we must first understand these concepts: sound source, power amplifier, output power, peak power.
Output power refers to the power that operates continuously for a long time.

Peak power is the maximum power that can be tolerated in a short period of time. It is much larger than the rated power.

The relationship between sound source and amplifier

When the sound source is very large in dynamic range, the power amplifier will be overloaded instantaneously. After the power amplifier tube is overloaded, serious nonlinear distortion will occur, which may even cause damage to the speaker.

Amplifier overload and overload elimination

The level of the amplifier output level indicator is green when the condition is normal; the level signal is yellow when the amplifier requires the continuous signal of the high tone; the red indicator light flashes when the audio signal peaks or drums (Slightly shiny), all of the above are normal. If the red indicator light is on, this indicates that the amplifier may be overloaded.

This situation often occurs when a single amplifier drives multiple speakers. At this point, the system should be reconfigured to eliminate this overload. The power amplifier peak indicator (PEAK), when the PEAK peak indicator is flashing, should reduce the gain control. The power amplifier protection indicator will automatically disconnect the built-in protection circuit of the amplifier when some operations are performed incorrectly. At this time, the protection display will flash. After the error operation is removed, the protection indicator will go out.

Professional amplifiers require continuous long hours of operation in large events and are able to withstand the vibrations and impacts of handling. Therefore, professional amplifiers are designed with greater emphasis on durability and structural reliability for long-term use than amplifiers for general audio. The amplifier has an important influence on the sound quality of the sound reinforcement. In order to give full play to the performance and function of audio equipment, we must pay attention to the quality of the amplifier. Otherwise, a high quality sound reinforcement system will not work.

Impedance matching

When the amplifier is connected to the amplifier and the amplifier is connected to the amplifier, they must be considered for impedance matching (impedance in ohms).

Impedance matching means that the rated output impedance of the amplifier should be equal to the rated impedance of the speaker. At this time, the speaker absorbs the most power. If the rated impedance of the speaker is much smaller than the rated output impedance of the amplifier, it will cause a sharp increase in operating current, which will damage the speaker and amplifier. Therefore, when the amplifier is connected to the speaker, it must be noted that the input impedance of the speaker must be within the load impedance range of the amplifier. Power matching In principle, the rated output power of the power amplifier should be equal to the rated power of the speaker. However, since the power amplifier tube will have severe nonlinear distortion after overload, it is usually intended to increase the rated output power of the amplifier to be greater than the rated power of the speaker. If the power of the speaker is much smaller than the power of the power amplifier, care should be taken when using the power amplifier. The volume should be gradually adjusted from small to large, and should not be too large, otherwise the speaker will be damaged. In actual work, the output power of the power amplifier is relatively large, which is helpful for improving the sound quality.
