Broadcom launches DOCSIS 3.0 set-top box to provide Chinese cable TV users with more advanced functions

Cost-effective, compact set-top box design brings leading C-DOCSIS technology to home networking

Broadcom (Broadcom) has launched a new cost-effective, compact DOCSIS 3.0 set-top box (STB) for the growing Chinese cable television market. This new product can provide Chinese cable TV users with more advanced features, including Over-the-top (OTT) video content, broadband data services, and wired and wireless home networks.

Broadcom launches DOCSIS 3.0 set-top box to provide Chinese cable TV users with more advanced functions

Broadcom’s new cable TV set-top box design incorporates DOCSIS 3.0 functions, provides AVS+ decoding support for high-definition (HD) content, and is compatible with TVOS. These new functions can meet the growing bandwidth transmission requirements for new user applications and cable services in China's C-DOCSIS network, and help operators provide home users with easy-to-install equipment. At the China International Radio and Television Information Network (CCBN) exhibition held this week, Broadcom will showcase the latest DOCSIS 3.0 cable TV set-top box platform.

Rich Nelson, senior vice president of marketing for Broadcom's broadband and wireless connectivity division, said: "Broadcom's compact cable TV set-top box design can reduce system costs and system complexity, thereby reducing the development and deployment costs of Chinese cable TV operators, and Provide value-added services for home users. By integrating DOCSIS 3.0, our new devices can help realize advanced IP-based home networking, allowing consumers to obtain better voice, data and video services through multiple devices in the home, and at the same time improve security performance."

This ultra-compact DOCSIS 3.0 cable TV set-top box (STB) platform will incorporate Broadcom’s BCM7250 STB SoC, Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL, Mobile High-Definition Link) 2.0 and DOCSIS 3.0 cable modulation coordinator system-level chip (SoC) BCM3383 is perfectly integrated into one.
