The injection is a painful thing, especially for some patients with chronic diseases, requiring long-term maintenance and treatment. Researchers have developed a pill robot that can take injections inside the body.

The device, named Rani, has a similar shape to a regular capsule, but it is essentially a small swallowing auto-injector that can deliver drugs directly to the highly-developed intestine wall of blood vessels, allowing the drug to be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream.

After the patient swallows the pills, the shell protects these drug proteins from decomposition in the digestive tract. When it reaches the intestine, the outer shell is degraded by the intestine and the balloon is inflated, prompting the injection made of absorbable material (eg, sugar) to inject the drug directly into the intestinal wall. The intestine dissolves the needle after it dissolves. Finally, air bags and other materials can gradually degrade in the intestines, pass through the intestines and eventually leave the body without risk of clogging.
