Maxim introduced the MAX2203 RMS power detector. The device is designed to work in the 800MHz to 2.0GHz frequency band. It receives RF input signals and outputs a voltage corresponding to the power of the input signal. This voltage is independent of the peak-to-average ratio of the input signal. This RMS power detector is ideal for WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), cdma2000® and HSDPA / HSUPA (High Speed ​​Downlink / Uplink Packet Access). The MAX2203 uses Maxim's proprietary SiGe BiCMOS process and wafer-level packaging technology to provide repeatable, high-precision RMS output for any modulated signal over the entire operating temperature range. This "future-proof" performance frees the MAX2203 from being limited by the modulation mode. It can be applied to new devices that incorporate other modulation schemes without additional design changes to the existing circuit.
The output voltage is linearly related to the input power in decibels. The detection range of the device is -25dBm to + 3dBm. For every dB change of input signal power, the output voltage will change accordingly by 40mV (typical value). The MAX2203 has a very high 0.1dB (typical) RMS accuracy in the WCDMA modulation range. The temperature-induced detection error is only ± 0.5dB, which greatly improves multi-band, multi-mode smartphones, cellular phones, broadband notebook data cards and other devices The closed-loop performance of the transmission channel in the middle. The MAX2203EWT + T is powered from 2.5V to 4.2V. The device operates over the -40 ° C to + 85 ° C extended temperature range and is available in an ultra-small 6-lead WLP package.
