Not only the Volvo's new self-driving long-distance trucks are on the line!

Electronic enthusiasts eight o'clock: Volvo has released a new VNL series semi-truck, which contains a series of high-tech features that will definitely attract many long-distance truck drivers.

As an independent entity of Volvo, Volvo Trucks will soon add an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) as a stand-alone unit to its own truck range, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and adaptive Cruise control and other functions.

Advanced driver assistance systems are becoming more popular among passenger car manufacturers – such as Tesla and Cadillac – but they are not widely used in long-haul trucks, just as a configuration option or accessory. The transformation exists. Volvo claims to be the first OEM to standardize these semi-automatic driving functions.

“Because truck drivers are more susceptible to similar incidents, truck manufacturers are good at adopting this technology,” said Navigant research analyst Sam Abuelsamid. “Long-haul trucks may be one of the first areas where autonomous driving is widely used.”

Indeed, there is widespread concern that autonomous driving techniques can lead to massive unemployment for truck drivers. According to a recent study, by 2030, automated trucks will reduce the demand for truck drivers in the US and Europe by 50-70%, when 4.4 million professional drivers will be eliminated.

Last year, Volvo announced a video of the FMX concept truck, which can handle many complex road conditions, such as the 1200-kilometer KrisTIneberg coal mine below the surface. During the technical show, the truck automatically stepped on the brakes as it traveled to Volvo CTO Torbj?rn Holmström.

However, the self-driving truck technology is not yet ready. Volvo says its advanced driver assistance system can use cameras and radar sensors to detect stationary metal objects and vehicles, or vehicles that brake in front of trucks. It also works with cruise control to help truck drivers maintain a safe distance behind other vehicles. If the vehicle in front decelerates, the system will alert the driver and reduce the throttle and brake when necessary.

The truck's infotainment system includes a 5-inch display that provides driving data and diagnostic information. The purchaser can also install a 7-inch touch screen for navigation and reversing images at an additional cost. In addition, Volvo's VNL series can also support Apple CarPlay, which is the second truck series on the market to support Apple's system after Mitsubishi Scannia.
