OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVTI), the world's largest supplier of CMOS image sensors, introduced the first 5 megapixel CameraChip(TM) sensor OV5630.
The OV5630 uses its proprietary 1.75-micron OmniPixel3-HSTM architecture and delivers industry-leading low-light performance, enabling a new generation of high-performance camera phones to deliver the highest quality digital images and images in a compact form factor. In addition, OmniVision also introduced the OV5633, which was modified by the OV5630. The OV5633 is designed for hybrid cameras with digital cameras and digital video (DSC/DV). Both the OV5630 and OV5633 use OmniPix el 3-HS technology to provide low light sensitivity to 960 mV/lux seconds in low-light image sinusoids. The 1/3.2-inch RGB raw sensor provides different chief ray angles to accommodate the specific lenses required for mobile phones and digital cameras/cameras. The two sensors also support automatic exposure control, gain control, white balance, 50/60Hz brightness detection and black level calibration.
The OV5630 and OV5633 are expected to begin mass production in the fourth quarter of this year.
