The wearable tide is coming as soon as possible, listening to the opportunities and challenges in the e-community talks

Suddenly, the spring breeze came, and since 2013, the craze for wearable devices has hit every corner of the globe. Especially this year, almost all technology giants are investing in the field of wearable technology, actively developing "wearable" products and rushing to acquire small companies in order to profit from this growing market. According to the latest report of Credit Suisse, the size of the wearable market is expected to reach 30 to 50 billion US dollars in the next two to three years.

At present, there are many professional wearable technology applications on the market, such as GPS sensors that can prompt blind people to get home, built-in in the solitaire clothing, and can immediately notify the caregiver's sensors once they are detected to fall. There are also a variety of applications that we are used to, such as running sensors installed in shoes. In the future, there will be more small tools and electronic products that are more closely related to human life, and they will track and use data in a variety of smart, non-traditional ways.

The growth of wearable technology is the trend of the times, but its general development faces several major problems:

The first is the cost. Even the influx of electronics can be prohibitive for expensive wearable products. Manufacturers need to reflect on the entire production process and encourage developers to try out the most cost-effective wearable accessories such as displays, energy and connectors;

The second is the power supply. If wireless technology is used, then it is necessary to enable the wearable device to be charged at a long distance without plugging in a fixed power source. If energy harvesting technology is used, the equipment needs to be able to obtain electricity through motion or heat;

The third is the concept setting. The challenges and capabilities that wearable technology needs to solve should not be the larger, faster, and more recognized devices available.

The fourth is the aesthetic issue. In order to achieve the perfect integration of performance and design, we must encourage the engineering field to develop more professional solutions, and actively promote the "manufacturer movement" to enable them to develop more accessible wearable products with aesthetic vision.

Faced with a critical moment in the development of wearable technology, Element14 partnered with Adafruit to host the “Get Closer” Challenge in its 200,000-member global developer community. Element14 offers players all the relevant content from the Adafruit FLORA kit, including GPS sensors, color detectors, accelerometers and several LED lights that can be sewn into textiles. At the end of the competition, more than 100 conceptual designs were received, including: GPS hats, GPS gloves, Flora color cameras, FLORAbrella and more.

In the near future, we believe that wearable technology will penetrate into every aspect of our lives and be omnipresent. Thirty years ago, wireless phones only existed in the imagination of science fiction; 50 years later, when our descendants heard that we charged the charger into the wall, they would be puzzled.

There is also a description in Energy HarvesTIng:

When our descendants saw that we made a lot of waste in order to use the battery, they must be unbelievable, just as we would not believe that people in the 20th century would burn coal without fear of environmental pollution. Wearable technology is the same, we are at the forefront of a technological revolution, but wearable technology is bound to be widely used. Our current mission is to drive innovation and equip our engineers with the expertise and tools to achieve their goals.

In order to cope with the huge development potential of the Chinese market, e-Link will continue to invest and increase product inventory, thus providing customers with the widest range of high-performance components and products, which is convenient for users to choose. Our goal is to provide customers with the services and solutions they need for the entire design process, and to sell components to support their prototyping, product testing, pilot production and mass production. Designers can access a wide range of components and solutions through e-Links to develop new wearable products and discuss the latest developments with engineers in the same industry. On this holiday season, element14 is sincerely grateful to the readers of Electronic Enthusiasts for their support and sincere New Year wishes.
