Toyota's big data startup, Toyota Connected, announced that it will provide Avis with 10,000 connected cars. At the same time, Avis plans to build a fully interconnected fleet by 2020 to streamline the leasing process.
According to foreign media reports, the cooperation between the two companies will be extended from this year to 2021. The deal is part of Avis Car Rental's overall goal of establishing a fully interconnected rental fleet worldwide by 2020.
Zach Hicks, CEO of Toyota Connected North America, said in a statement: "Toyota's mobile service platform will enhance the interconnectivity and visibility of Avis rental fleets and provide more control to customers. Right and convenience to enhance their rental experience."
Under the two agreements, Avis will use Toyota's mobile service platform to improve fleet management and help speed up or automate vehicle registration and checkout processing times.
A Toyota Motor Corporation spokesperson said: "The platform's application programming interface (API) will provide rental information such as mileage, fuel tank and vehicle location to Avis and its customers in real time."
Avis said in a statement: "The connected Toyota is expected to be available in September this year, when a considerable number of vehicles will enter the company's fleet."
