WayRay, a Swiss AR technology provider, unveiled the CES2018 with a head-up display (HUD) solution. For the first time, the company showed its NAVION aftermarket solutions to the public and also designed holographic AR windshield products for its OEMs.
Wayray's core product is Navion, a car navigation device that uses augmented reality technology. It projects navigation information, security reminders, etc. on the windshield in the form of holograms without any additional glasses or headgear. “This is the technology that has been applied to aircraft navigation to land navigation.†Since the navigation arrows appear to be projected on the road, the driving experience is like a video game interface, and the driver no longer needs to look down at the navigation information while driving. This reduces the safety risks in driving.
Vitaly Ponomarev, the company's chief executive, said that both the original equipment manufacturer and the aftermarket equipment can be mounted directly on the windshield. The after-sales version uses simple red and green two-color overlays, and even with only two colors, it's easy to identify all the key information displayed by the system, and blue will follow.
WayRay's technology has a big advantage over ordinary car HUDs because of its wider field of view. The driver can see it within 11 degrees of the built-in solution, which is better than the 8 degrees you usually see from the car HUDs.
WayRay currently has $30 million in financing and is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and has opened a new company in Silicon Valley. Ponomariev said that the company is in the process of a new round of financing of 50 million US dollars, but because the financing has not yet ended, it can not disclose the information of investors.
