In the photographic works, if the foreground, the middle scene and the background can be properly combined, the depth of the picture can be better created, so that the picture is richer and fuller, and the subject in the picture will be more prominent.
But for aerial photos, there is usually a lack of foreground elements. Therefore, aerial photography is prone to lack of depth of field and appears flat. This problem has been plagued by many aerial photographers. Therefore, our first DJI aerial photography college invited photographer Randy to introduce several ways to enhance the aerial depth of field, so that your aerial photos are more hierarchical.
Shooting from the middle of the branches enhances the depth of field and brings a "peek" visual experience to the viewer. The most effective way to make the composition more layered is to lower the height of the aircraft and let the branches, buildings or other tall objects approach the lens, giving the photo a future. If you can shoot from the gaps in the branches, the effect will be even more brilliant. This method of shooting creates a hidden peep, and is often referred to by photographers as "Peeping Composition."
In addition, depth of field can be enhanced by slightly reducing the saturation or/and brightness of the foreground. This method is similar to the late mid-dark corner processing, but the adjustment to the bottom of the photo is more powerful.
The above picture uses both vignetting and guide lines. In addition to the above two methods, you can also use the focus of the lens to create the depth of field of aerial photos. It is worth noting that in addition to the D2.8 Phantom 4 PRO with F2.8-11 adjustable aperture, many consumer-grade drone cameras currently do not have strong blur and depth of field functions (this requires an aperture that can be adjusted by the aperture to fulfill). If your aerial drone is not equipped with such a lens, we can post-process it to achieve blurring by shifting the axis or Gaussian blur.
The above picture also uses the vignetting and blur to create depth of field, so that the plain photos are immediately available. By taking the shifting process later, the flattened aerial photographs become hierarchicalDon't miss the background of the photo during the retouching process. Today's current retouching software is very powerful, and Adobe Lightroom's “go to 霾†feature, or Macphun Luminar's Accent AI filter, instantly removes smog in the sky. Removing the clouds and smog in the background needs to be considered in combination with the actual situation. It is not always best to remove it completely. Sometimes some dark clouds are left, and the photos can be brought a far-sighted look, making the photography more layered.
The above method of increasing the depth of field is for your reference only, and you can use your own drone to try. The UAV technology in DJI has greatly promoted the popularity of aerial photography. Nowadays, aerial photography enthusiasts can control the drones effortlessly and capture the wonderful lens images from the air. Today's social media often see aerial photos, giving us the opportunity to see the world from a new perspective.
