According to sources from motherboard makers, Intel expects to officially release the next-generation 22nm Ivy Bridge processor as early as March 2012. The first batch will be a quad-core and dual-core model. The Ivy Bridge adopting the new technology will have a significant improvement in power consumption compared to the Sandy Bridge. The four-core thermal design power consumption includes 77W, 65W, and 45W. The dual cores have 55W and 35W, and the current maximum is 95W. 65W.
In terms of chipset, Intel will launch Z77 and Z75 to replace Z68 and P67, and use H77 to eliminate H67. Q67, Q65, and B65 on the business platform will be upgraded to Q77, Q75, and B75, respectively.
The above is all about the desktop platform. The specific conditions and release time of the mobile platform are still unknown, but I believe that the power consumption will certainly be lower.
Intel CEO Paul Otellini confirmed yesterday that Ivy Bridge has started mass production in the third quarter, and that it will only be strategic to wait until the end of the first quarter of next year or even early in the second quarter.
