Osram's dust-free research center is dedicated to solid-state lighting research
On April 8, Osram Sylvania expanded its company to spend millions of dollars in the Beverly, Massachusetts, Clean Blade LED center, dedicated to solid-state lighting research.
The company also announced that the US Department of Energy has awarded its $2 million prize for SSL research and development, which will be used to build the new cleanroom lab.
Osram Sylvania will use this bonus to develop an LED replacement that replaces the small MR-16 halogen spotlight. The bonus will also fund basic research projects to optimize LED phosphors and develop a new generation of white LEDs with higher luminous efficiency.
OSRAM Sylvania will begin the project in mid-2009, ending in 2011 and publishing the project report to DOE officials.
The US Department of Energy's fifth round of solid-state lighting research and development program awards was announced on March 27.
