According to foreign media reports, according to a research report released by the market research company DisplaySearch on Sunday, due to the global economic downturn affecting the demand for LCD TVs and PCs, global LCD panel prices fell in the fifth consecutive month in September this year.
According to DisplaySearch, the price of the best-selling 33-inch LCD panel in September dropped from US$186 in August to US$174. The price of this type of LCD panel was US$196 in July, US$202 in June, US$205 in May and US$208 in April.
The price of the 46-inch LCD panel in September dropped from 434 US dollars in April to 388 US dollars. The decrease in the price of the smaller size LCD panel is from US$24 to US$52.
DisplaySearch claims that the downward trend in LCD panel prices is due to a backlog of products from major TV manufacturers and computer manufacturers. The reason for this is caused by weak demand due to economic uncertainties such as the financial crisis in southern Europe.
The drop in prices has caused Samsung and LG Display Inc. to feel uneasy. Samsung Electronics is focusing on advanced LCD screens such as 3D and LED displays in order to stop prices from reducing its profits. LG Display will respond to this situation by reducing production.
A Samsung official said that the long-term decline in prices is troubling, but the bigger problem is the recent increase in price declines. Future performance will depend on the needs of major customers.
