VR game "Moss" will introduce sign language communication

This year's E3 2017, VR game "Moss" left a deep impression on everyone. The little mouse in "Moss" shows through the PS VR headline and tells a story from a small role perspective. However, because the mouse does not speak, the animation director of the game is trying to present it in a unique way: sign language.

Polyarc Games animation director Richard Lico said: "Because it can only make a buzzing sound, I will try to communicate with players in a way that it can do." Lico is the creator of Quill in the game, Quill learns some simple Granted to help it communicate with players who are not good at using the mouse.

Lico stated to 913VR that the intention of releasing this GIF was to regulate people's gestures. In this section of the GIF, the little mouse showed its cute signature to everyone. The signature read: "I'm glad to meet you."

Lico said to 913VR: “There is no sign language in our office, so I really hope to find a practical and effective way to communicate.”

The church Quill sign language is a way to open up communication with players. The response is positive. In the demo at E3 this year, the mouse's signature is a supplement to its sign language.

Applying many gestures to the game is the team's current plan, rather than letting mice simply use their fingers to spell words. Quill's hands are small, so simple movements are easily noticeable.

"We try to avoid multiple spellings and explanations. It doesn't fit the design of the game and it's not very recognizable in VR."

Throughout the game, Quill's gestures were mostly limited to "reminder prompts, reactions, and emotional feedback," so we learned a few simple gesture languages from the game.

For a game without any language, introducing gestures into the game is a relatively new way. In addition to "MOSS", there are other games using similar methods, such as the "Tacoma" released by the Xbox and PC platforms. Although there are a large number of voiceovers and texts in Tacoma, there are several times in the game that Amy Ferrier still spells the password by finger.
