Lenovo believes that a laptop that supports virtual reality is not enough. You also need a laptop that can develop virtual reality programs. To this end, Lenovo released three professional workstations.
The 17-inch ThinkPad P71 has been certified by HTC, Nvidia, and Oculus to meet VR-Ready standards. You can find a mobile Xeon E3 processor in the ThinkPad P71 and a workstation graphics card up to the Quadro P5000. The device also supports up to 64GB of RAM and four storage devices (including legacy and solid state drives); Thunderbolt 3 port support; an optional 4K display for clearer non-VR visual effects.
The other two devices are more for portability. The 15-inch ThinkPad P51s are Lenovo's lightest and thinnest mobile workstations so far, weighing a relatively modest 4.3 pounds and a thickness equivalent to the 0.79-inch Ultrabook. The ThinkPad P51s are not as powerful as the P71, but you can still find the seventh-generation Core processors; up to 32GB of RAM; the optional 4K display; and the Quadro M520M.
In contrast, the more traditional ThinkPad P51 is cumbersome, but this 15-inch machine uses a faster processor (including the P71 Xeon chip); faster graphics (Quadro M2200M); and up to 64GB of capacity .
The P51s will be available in March and will start at $1,049. At the same time, P51 and P71 will be listed in April, starting at $1,399 and starting at $1,849.
