The first OLED display technology specification released
As the OLED market is in the ascendant, the first "OLED New Generation Display Technology Specification" (hereinafter referred to as "Specifications") jointly sponsored by the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce and the Tsinghua University Color Research Institute and numerous companies was officially announced. This is also the first industry self-regulation norm since OLED entered the market.
Lu Jianbo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, said in an interview that due to the emerging OLED market, the volume has not been released on a large scale. In order to avoid the problems such as the true and false 4K TV that appeared, everyone unanimously decided before the introduction of the national standard. The self-regulatory norms of the nature of industry alliances should be first introduced to ensure the order of the future OLED market and effectively constrain the future market.
It is understood that the "Specifications" from the display viewing angle, color saturation, contrast, response speed, body thickness and weight, surface design and other six aspects, OLED TV is fully defined. Among them, the specified color gamut coverage can reach more than 115%; the contrast can reach infinite contrast; the response time can be less than 1 microsecond; the thickness can reach less than 5 mm; the best surface design is presented.
Lu Jianbo said that there are many OLED TVs sold by LG, Changhong, Skyworth, Konka and other companies on the market. The mainstream size is 55 inches, and more sizes will be available for sale in the future.
Whether to use surface design becomes the focus of controversy
It can be seen from the "Specifications" that the best surface design is listed as one of the six normative indicators. However, among the member units that initiated the "Specifications", there are also products that use non-surface design. It should be designed as a curved surface to become the focus of industry controversy.
Liu Weizhi, president of Shenzhen Skyworth-RGB Electronics Co., Ltd., said in an interview that Skyworth's 55-inch OLED TV will not use curved surface design, and said that "the 55-inch curved OLED market is not playing." He stressed: "55-inch TV is not curved. Conducive to family members to watch together, there will be blind spots of view. And the larger size of the curved OLED will be more visual impact, the use of curved surface design is more effective."
LG Display, one of the two major OLED panel providers, has also introduced products with different designs in its LG Electronics OLED TV products. The same 55-inch OLED TV LG uses both flat and curved designs.
The industry explained: "In fact, OLED is made into curved surface and plane, it will not increase any technical cost. Since the OLED characteristics are thin, it can be controlled below 5 mm, so the large-sized flat panel will naturally have bending characteristics, so OLED The nature determines that it can be designed as a curved TV, but how to design the end products in the market depends on how the company chooses."
The drafters of the "Regulations" said in an interview that in the norm-setting process, they mainly want to tell enterprises in the industry and consumers what OLED should look like. Therefore, writing surface design into "Specifications" does not mean that it must be a surface. It is OLED, because LCD TVs can also be curved, but the cost will be greatly improved, so OLED is the most suitable for curved surfaces. The content specified in the Code is “presenting the best surface designâ€, which means that OLED can present curved surface design and is the best solution. It is not stipulated that OLED TV must be made into curved surface design.
Display effect is better than LCD TV
As a new generation of display technology, OLED has many advantages in terms of image quality compared with LCD TVs currently on the market. Sun Qifeng of the Digital Television Standard Conformity Testing Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology believes that compared with the traditional passive light source LCD TV, OLED has the unique characteristics of self-illumination technology, so it has the characteristics that traditional LCD TV can't match in terms of picture quality and design.
It is understood that OLED TV's unique self-illuminating technology structure can achieve infinite contrast, far beyond the 5,000:1 limited contrast of LCD TV; OLED TV has a wider viewing angle than LCD TV, from all angles, the picture Always clear and undistorted, no distortion of the picture occurs. The response time of OLED TV is only 0.001ms, which is 5000 times faster than the response time of 5ms of LCD TV.
